Pokemon Ghost Grey Download Version 1.0.2

Pokemon Ghost Grey is a FireRed ROM hack with a dark, ghost-themed story. This page has the latest official patch file.

The current release is Version 1.0.2, published on 10 September 2026. It is a bug-fix update. It does not add new story content.

If you are already playing v1.0.1, you should still update. One of the fixes removes a softlock that could end your run.

Download Pokemon Ghost Grey v1.0.2

You are downloading a patch file, not a full game. The patch is small. It only holds the changes.

You also need a clean Pokemon FireRed (USA) Version 1.0 ROM. We cannot host that file. It is copyrighted by Nintendo. You must supply your own legal copy.

Use The Correct Base ROM

This is the most common reason patching fails. Ghost Grey needs Pokemon FireRed (USA) Version 1.0. This is also called Rev 0.

It will NOT work with:

  • FireRed (USA, Europe) Rev 1
  • FireRed (Europe) or any other region
  • LeafGreen
  • A ROM that is already patched with another hack

How to check your file:

  • Correct size is exactly 16,777,216 bytes (16 MB)
  • Internal game code is BPRE
  • MD5 checksum is E26EE0D44E809351C8CE2D73C7400CDD

If your MD5 does not match, your patch will fail or the game will crash.

How To Patch Ghost Grey (Step By Step)

You need a patcher. We recommend Rom Patcher JS. It runs in your browser. Nothing gets uploaded to a server. Everything stays on your device.

  • Step 1: Download GhostGrey.bps from the button above.
  • Step 2: Open your browser patcher.
  • Step 3: Load your clean FireRed (USA) v1.0 ROM as the source file.
  • Step 4: Load GhostGrey.bps as the patch file.
  • Step 5: Click Apply Patch.
  • Step 6: Save the new file. It will be about 32 MB.

That new file is your playable Ghost Grey ROM. Open it in any GBA emulator.

Good emulator choices:

  • mGBA (Windows, Mac, Linux)
  • My Boy or Pizza Boy (Android)
  • Delta (iOS)

If The Patch Fails

Most errors come from the base ROM, not the patch.

Source ROM checksum mismatch: Your FireRed file is the wrong version. Get a clean USA v1.0 copy.

Invalid patch file: The download was cut off. Delete it and download again.

Game opens to a white screen: Your emulator save type is wrong. Set it to Flash 128K.

Game crashes on startup: You may have patched an already-modified ROM. Start over with a clean one.

Patched file is only 16 MB: The patch did not apply. Ghost Grey output should be 32 MB.

Should You Update From v1.0.1?

Yes. We recommend it.

Your save file is safe. Ghost Grey saves are stored in a separate .sav file. Patching a fresh ROM does not touch it.

Here is how to keep your progress:

  • Step 1: Note the exact file name of your current Ghost Grey ROM.
  • Step 2: Patch a clean FireRed ROM with the v1.0.2 patch.
  • Step 3: Rename the new ROM to match your old ROM name exactly.
  • Step 4: Keep the .sav file in the same folder.
  • Step 5: Open the new ROM. Your save should load.

Important: always back up your .sav file first. Copy it somewhere safe before you do anything else.

One note. If you are currently stuck inside a bug, updating may not free you. The fix stops the bug from happening again. It cannot always undo a save that is already broken. In that case you may need an older backup.

Frequently Asked Question

Is Pokemon Ghost Grey free?

Yes. It is a fan-made ROM hack. The patch is free. Nobody should charge you for it.

Which FireRed version do I need?

Pokemon FireRed (USA) Version 1.0, also called Rev 0. Rev 1 will not work.

Can I play it on my phone?

Yes. Patch the ROM first, then open it in a GBA emulator such as My Boy, Pizza Boy, or Delta.

Will my old save work after updating?

In most cases yes. Keep the .sav file name the same as the ROM file name. Back it up first.

What is a BPS file?

It is a patch format. It holds only the differences between the original game and the hack. You apply it to a base ROM to build the full game.

Do I need to start a new game for v1.0.2?

No. This is a bug-fix update. You can continue your current playthrough.

Why is my patched file 32 MB when FireRed is 16 MB?

That is normal. Ghost Grey expands the ROM to fit new content.

Is this an official Pokemon game?

No. It is a fan project. It is not made or supported by Nintendo, Game Freak, or The Pokemon Company.

Where do I report a bug?

Join the developer’s Discord community and post in the bug reports channel.

Before You Play

Back up your save file. Do this every few hours of play. Emulator saves can corrupt without warning.

Use the newest patch. Older versions still carry the fixed bugs. Report anything odd. Player reports are how v1.0.2 happened.
